MacroPoint ELD+ needs a dual-signal conflict record

MacroPoint says ELD+ compares telematics and mobile signals in one tracking session. Buyers need conflict lineage before either signal drives an operating decision.

Bind both observations to the same tracking session

The direct operating answer is to retain two attributed observations and an explicit comparison record. For every ELD+ tracking session, identify the customer, carrier, shipment and load, assigned driver, tractor and trailer where applicable, stop sequence, planned tracking window, telematics connection, mobile user and device, and the rules used to associate those objects. A location point has little decision value if the team cannot show which physical and business objects it represented when the event was received. [1]

Keep source event time, platform receipt time, time zone, coordinates, accuracy or quality indicator where supplied, connection status, original payload identifier, normalized event, and any suppression or correction. Do not rewrite one source with the other. If the vehicle connection and mobile application produce different coordinates, the durable record should preserve both, the calculated difference, the comparison rule and version, the tolerance applied, and the state that the workflow presented to an operator or downstream system.

Treat disagreement as an exception, not a verdict

MacroPoint's official ELD+ page describes comparing dual sources and recognizing conflicting location data. A mismatch can be operationally useful, but the public record does not establish its cause. Device association, driver reassignment, tractor swap, application permissions, network delay, stale pings, clock differences, geofence design, lost connectivity, data normalization, or an integration error can all affect the displayed relationship. A discrepancy is therefore an exception requiring disposition, not proof that one person or carrier supplied false information. [1]

Define the states that follow a conflict: open, awaiting a new observation, identity check required, carrier contacted, driver response received, source association corrected, geofence or timestamp issue, accepted variance, unresolved, or escalated. Retain the actor, time, evidence, reason, and resulting action for each transition. If a source stops reporting and the other continues, label the continuity path and remaining uncertainty. Fallback can preserve visibility while reducing corroboration; it does not silently restore the confidence of two aligned signals. [1]

Release only the decision the evidence supports

A dual-source comparison can affect an arrival flag, departure flag, ETA, exception, check call, detention workflow, customer message, carrier review, or payment-related milestone. Each downstream use needs a named owner, input cutoff, required evidence, confidence or uncertainty label, and correction path. An automatically selected position should remain distinguishable from a driver confirmation, a carrier statement, a customer acknowledgement, and an accepted contractual milestone. The latest point should not win merely because it arrived last.

The official page also describes mobile confirmation of arrivals and departures and capture of documents, photos, and proof of delivery. Preserve those artifacts as separate attestations with identity, timestamp, document type, version, related stop or shipment, and review state. A photograph or uploaded proof-of-delivery document does not by itself establish customer acceptance, quantity, condition, free-time calculation, invoice approval, payment, or legal responsibility. Link those later decisions without collapsing them into the tracking event. [1]

Test conflict, fallback, reassignment, and correction

A useful buyer demonstration should begin with aligned telematics and mobile observations, then introduce a driver reassignment, tractor swap, shared or replaced phone, delayed mobile ping, telematics outage, poor accuracy, coordinates on opposite sides of a geofence, premature arrival confirmation, duplicate document, and corrected stop sequence. Reviewers should see the original signals, object associations, comparison logic, operator response, downstream release, and correction history without losing the state that earlier users saw.

Supply Chain Signal reviewed the registered MacroPoint homepage and linked official ELD+ record on September 29, 2026. The sources support current provider descriptions of dual-source tracking, comparison, fallback, mobile confirmations, and document capture. They do not disclose a customer's association model, signal accuracy, latency, tolerance, configured decision rules, exception performance, investigation result, ETA quality, service result, or financial outcome. No attributable publication or revision date established a material development after the September 28 cutoff. [2] [1]

Enterprise buyer test

Translate this change into the exact population, record type, workflow stage, decision owner, effective date, and evidence that could be affected. Ask current or prospective providers to demonstrate the named workflow with representative data and an exception—not a polished feature tour. Record what official documentation establishes, what a provider states, what the team observes, and what remains unresolved.

A defensible review also identifies the dependency outside the product. Authority interpretation, policy configuration, data quality, integrations, human judgment, approval rights, release governance, training, and retained evidence may remain customer or service responsibilities. The evaluation should preserve those boundaries instead of treating a technology claim as the complete operating model.

What we will watch next

Supply Chain Signal will watch the named source and affected market records for later evidence that changes status, scope, availability, implementation timing, workflow consequence, or the limits of the initial report. A later announcement does not silently overwrite this dated account; the change ledger preserves the sequence.
